Benefits of Exfoliating Your Face
Coming out of winter our skin will need some extra love. However this is not really just a seasonal therapy for healthy skin
What is exfoliation
Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin. It is an additional step that cleanses even deeper than your typical cleanser removing the excess buildup that can be left behind. Exfoliation helps brightens your skin and allows serums, and moisturizers to penatrate into the skin, making them more effective. It also makes the skin feel significantly softer and can help prevent breakouts, since the buildup of dead skin cells can trigger acne flare-ups.
IN ESSENCE...
The skin undergoes a cell turnover cycle every month, in which our skin sheds dead skin cells and forms new ones. Exfoliants are substances that help to slough off dead skin cells from the surface of the skin.
Dead skin cells can prevent skincare products from being absorbed by the skin, hence, regular exfoliation is required to help maximize the absorption of all the beneficial ingredients needed for the skin, promoting healthy skin with a youthful glow.
Exfoliation should not be done more than once a week. There is such a thing as to much of a good thing. However there are exceptions to every rule. The exception here depends on your skin type. If you have oily skin you can and it is even recommended to exfoliate twice a week. Finding the right schedule for exfoliating depends on your skin type
Signs of over exfoliating will come in the form of, redness, irritation, flaking skin. Remember to moisturize, but not only with butters or other treatments. Nothing can replace the need your body has for water. Whether you like it straight up, with a twist of lemon and cucumber, or sparkling, water is the best thing you can do for your skin
